A sustainable shift has been building in the fashion world for some time now. The idea of renting — familiar from car-sharing, or the good old public library — has found its way into fashion too. Renting offers a more eco-friendly alternative to buying, letting style-conscious consumers save money and closet space while staying perfectly on-trend. Some platforms even let you rent out your own designer pieces to others.

Here you can get a fashion flat rate for €59 a month, which includes three garments and two accessories per box, unlimited exchanges, free shipping both ways, and one flat monthly fee no matter how many boxes you order. New York-based online service Rent the Runway lets you rent luxurious high-fashion pieces. For $69 a month, you can borrow four designer items and swap them for new ones every month; for $99, you can borrow as many pieces as you like and keep them for as long as you want. Unfortunately, the service is currently only available in the US.
